Roger E. Knapp

	Roger E. Knapp, age 64, of Pinckneyville, died Friday, July 20, 2001 at 3:06 a.m. in Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, Mo.
	Roger was born in DuQuoin on December 25, 1936, the son of Nelson C. and Ella Marie (McElroy) Knapp.  He married Shirley J. (Anderson) Swain on June 15, 1974 in DuQuoin and she survives.  During his lifetime, he attended Pinckneyville Community High School, served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, wa a retired State of Illinois Department of Agriculture Animal Health Investigator, was a former Supervisor of General Assistance in Perry County, a self-employed real estate business person, a member of the American Legion Post #2504 in Pinckneyville, was a lifelong member and very active in the Democratic Party and was a member of the Metro-East Landlords Association.
	Survivors include his wife, Shirley; brother, Roy Knapp and his wife Betty, all of Pinckneyville; step-children, Terry of Orland Park, JoAnn of Olney, the late Tom, formerly of San Francisco, Calif.; Karlene of Crete, Mike of Steger, Tammy of Vincennes, Ind. and Dan of Vincennes, Ind., formerly of Pinckneyville; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nephew, Ted Knapp and his wife Susan and their children, Jared and Megan, all of Mt. Vernon, and an uncle, Calvin Knapp of Pinckneyville.
	He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Eileen at birth and Roberta Vinyard.
	Friends called at the Beaucoup Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, on Monday from 5 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 8 a.m. until time of services.
	Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 24 at 1 p.m. in the Beaucoup Baptist Church with Reverend James O. Mathenia officiating.  Interment was in Mueller Hill Cemetery, Pinckneyville.
	Graveside Military rites were provided by American Legion Post #2504, Pinckneyville.
	Memorials may be made to the Mary Kuykendall Carpenter Heart Fund or Hope Lodge, sponsored by the American Cancer Society.
	Arrangements were by Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home, Pinckneyville.
